Like a rock…

July 28th, 2008

The capital C company dinner party was the best ever. I don’t know why I freak-out fret. Just stamp Virgo on my forehead. But, this post isn’t about me. It’s about Gracie Allen, aka Little Miss Needy.

Gracie is our three-year-old Golden pup. Yes, I say pup. She will always be a pup — by nature and energy. Gracie runs off-leash every day. She loves her doggish friends, but she loves people more. That would be all caps love.

I advised our guests that the best way to handle the 73-pound-hunk-of-burning-love-that-is-Gracie was to greet her and then ignore her. She would eventually settle. Well, nobody could manage to resist her except one man. Yep. You guessed it. She spent all of her time trying to get him to love her. I could hear him muttering under his breath, “I’m ignoring you. Ignoring you.” She simply would not give up. Quitter is not in her vocabulary. Writers take note! She gazed at him. She put her massive head on his knee. She nuzzled his elbow. She followed him around. She was dogged in her determination. Hey. Hey. Hey.

Finally, on his way out the door, he dropped to one knee and loved her like a rock. Thank you, Paul Simon. She had her nose pressed to the glass until his car pulled away — tongue lolling, tail wagging. It was the best ever dinner party for her, too. Unrequited love was now requited.

This illustrates it best.

Hello, Stranger. My name is Gracie. And, I need love, love to ease my mind...

I’m totally exhausted. I washed windows. I scrubbed floors. I did the Martha S. thang. I was a force of nature. Now it’s Monday, and I need to drag my sorry butt to work. Time for Rihanna and some Don’t Stop The Music.

Bit of a crush…

July 22nd, 2008

It’s a bit of a crush this week. Company’s coming. Writer Gal is morphing into Window Woman, 2nd cousin to Wonder Woman sans the great boots. What I really need is a 12th generation Roomba — something that might crawl the walls, as well as the floors. If it could burp a dazzling menu, that would be good, too.

I Googled, but didn’t find anything that crawls the walls…yet. Looks like I’m on my own.

The trouble is that this time of year, all I want to do is stand at the kitchen counter and eat a tomato, or munch on a handful of almonds. They don’t call them the lazy days of summer for nothing, bloggers. Grin. I don’t think that will cut it for capital C company.

So, today you get my Daylilies. I wait, impatiently, for these beauties. They are just beginning to bloom.

Deep Pink Daylily

Chocolate Brown Daylily

Oh. If you’ve got a simple summer menu floating around that will dazzle capital C company, I’m all ears. I’m in a bit of a crush.
