Movin’ on.

The first Sunday of October, and I was abed until 10:30. Yes! In the a.m. A total sleep ‘ho. I blame my sleep ‘ho-ing ways on Toronto’s nuit blanche, which I will post about later this week. At that, it was still only 41 Faren when I got up, and I could smell BACON!

Every time I write the word BACON!, I have to do it in caps with an exclamation point. My sister and I have agreed. It’s a sister thing. And a BACON! thing.

I smelled the B word, and my sweats flew down the stairs. Naturally, I came with them. Not only was there BACON!, but Mr. G, honey was lighting a fire in the place of fires. Our first fire of the season.

Fall is my favorite time for fires. Spring is a close second. I like the between weather for fires. Summer is too hot here, and winter is too cold. We’ll have fires in winter, especially around the holidays, but the second floor gets pretty nippy when we do. We need a Heatilator fireplace. Note to self.

Not to be outdone by Mr. G, honey, I put together a pot of potato leek soup and baked a skillet of corn bread to go with it.

BACON!, a crackling fire, potato leek soup and cornbread. Mm. Mm. Mm. My house smells good.

Super Techlet and Mr. Super Techlet are upstairs doing computer maintenance on my everlovin’ Linux Box and watching Friday Night Lights.

Did I mention it’s raining?

Keeping it light. That’s how we’re rolling here today.

Moving along.

It feels fallish. Autumnal.

It’s my favorite time of year. Though it’s technically not autumn, the mornings here are cool, and I’ve been sporting some yoga pants and sweats before noon. Oats are back on the breakfast menu. The serious kind — steel cut oats.

Mr. G honey hauled a cord of wood from the forest nursery yesterday and stacked it in the garage. I’m thinking his knees are five years older than the rest of him now. He used to hew and haul, but now he just hauls. His hewing days are over.

I’ve been placing the flagstone in the front garden do-over and watching a resident chipmunk skateboard off our new patio. He thinks he’s landed in a chipmunk theme park. I know just how he feels.

I’ve been roasting some veggies, making some jams, cleaning some windows, and trying to avoid the bees, the spiders, and the flies, who all seem to want to come indoors with me.

Because I’ve been doing and avoiding, it felt like the right time to hang the wreath of autumn leaves on the front door. I mentioned it to the Gster. It went like this.

Me: I think I’ll hang my autumn leaves on the door.

Mr. G honey: It’s too early.

Me: You’re hauling and stacking wood.

Mr. G honey: It’s too early.

Me: You’re prepping the snowblower.

Mr. G honey: It’s too early.

Let it be known throughout the land that I will be hanging the autumn leaves on the door this day.

Mr. G honey, aka Pneumonia Boy, hied off to the office today, leaving me with nothing but a cough and a crumpled pack of Fisherman’s Friend. Don’t waste time. Click right over and see Sucking on a Fisherman’s Friend.

He was pulling out all the stops. Going for a full day. Feeling the burn. I think he’s sprawled out in the den snoring as we speak.

Due to some sort of cosmic hiccup, Landscaper Crew were unable to attend upon my front garden today. I had exactly two emotions about this. Happy, because I was a few brain cells short from coughing them up all night. Deranged, because I hauled myself out of slumber extra early in order to shower, dress and slap on mascara before the landscaping hour, which starts extra early in these parts. All I could think was I shaved my legs for nothing!!!

Note to self: Keep up with the laundry — even if you’re dying — so you don’t get caught with nothing but your cropped pants.

I consoled myself wandering the back garden, admiring the green and leafy. There’s a lot of green and leafy out there, some color and sparkly stuff too.

I clipped some of this from my container garden. It was an experiment to see if, and how well, I could grow it.

This is your aerial shot. I love this little plate. I inherited six of them and use them most often for a salad or dessert.

Next year, I need to plant tons more. Tons. I love spinach. There is enough to throw in a salad here, but if I wilted it, it would render about a tablespoon. I’m seriously thinking of chocking it in my fruit smoothie. Yum.
