Shazam…

I haz a birthday cake hangover. This is good, because the next few days are going to be the uber busy, and I can whip through them on a sugar high. Yeah. I feel supercharged. Wonder Woman, Xena: Warrior Princess, Buffy and Elektra all rolled into one cosmic package.

Shazam.

Yesterday, I went blog AWOL. A kickass birthday blog just wasn’t happening.

I’m totally joyous and cranky about birthdays, all at the same time. I don’t like leaving this age behind to become …well… that age. For as long as I can remember, I have always stayed up until just past midnight on the last day of an age, as if I could squeeze every nanosecond out — vigil-keeping the b-day. Then, I rise early — totally over myself, sort of — and it’s carpé diem, baby.

First, I had to rock the house with music. It’s a rule. See the garage doors fly open and the cars zip out of the neighborhood, tires screeching. Clear out. Elen has a birthday. Next, it was off to spend the morning with my stylist being highlighted, lowlighted, trimmed and layered, flipped and volumized. I wanted to leave there looking like Kate Winslet. Hey! It’s my day. Really. Only Winslet can look like Winslet. All the same, I left there looking fine. Feeling good. Ready for cake. The afternoon was spent cruising with my Tech Baby, one awesome kid. And for the finale, a family dinner at my fave pub and … cake. Birthday awesomeness.

I didn’t write. I didn’t blog. Not a page. Not a paragraph. Not a word. I am without guilt or shame.

Labor Day weekend is approaching, and I’m feeling a little nostalgic.  Tech Baby moves into residence for her final year. Surely, I was a very young mother? A mere child myself? See Elen laughing. Gracie Golden Pup is picketing the property. Hell, no! She can’t go! Both of us will be in mourning by Saturday.

The next couple of days are a bit of a mad crush.

For those of you enjoying a last minute vacay fling, safe journey.

Go Labor Day!

Guinness all around.

Elen

  1. Happy Belated Elen! I was wandering around yesterday wondering if your birthday was soon. And I was right. Must have been all that loud music I heard from across the lake. Big lake. Big noise. I consider the alternative when the number count depresses me. That helps. A lot.
