Humpity Day: Here Be Dragons… + True Confessions

Okay. One dragon.

Everybody needs a dragon on their tree. Just sayin’.

True Confessions

We’ve had the new microwave for several years now. I still don’t know how to work it. Consequently, everything gets nuked on the Beverage setting. Everything. Yes, even this morning’s cream of wheat got zapped on Beverage 1. Perfection.

Since the microwave is primarily a food reheating system at our casa, it’s no biggy. Sometimes, I soften butter in it for making cookie dough.

Other than that, empty pizza boxes get stacked on it. Did I say that? I did.

I use the Todoist app for task management because it gives me karma points. The adult version of the gold star. Still a sucker for positive reinforcement.

52Stories52Weeks is challenging my head-hopping, writerly ways.

Yes. Yes, the bloggity did get a header image do-over. Winter’s coming, baby!

Your turn. Fess up. Entertain me with some factoid about yourself while I pound out story today.

Here be Hump Day.

Let’s just make like reindeer and dash right through it.

  1. My microwave hasn’t worked in years. It’s so heavy that I can’t even carry it by myself – or else I would’ve hauled its radioactive butt to the curb years ago. For now, it holds extra dishes I’m too lazy to make space for.

And yes. I ended a sentence with a preposition. 😱

  2. Ok Elen, so here goes. I’m not even sure how to regurgitate all the thoughts that popped in to my head when I saw your title. It’s like a bunch of bunny poops in here. – First off, I love the actual definition of Here Be Dragons – “Here be dragons” means dangerous or unexplored territories, in imitation of a supposed medieval practice of putting dragons, sea serpents and other mythological creatures in uncharted areas of maps.
No map but a Christmas tree? How uncharted is that?
Second, my next thought was my favorite line from Game of Thrones. “WINTER IS COMING” which my husband has coined in such an inappropriate way. I’d tell you the factoid, but I’m blushing just considering saying it.
Now, last but not least, there is a book by Sharon Kay Penman called Here Be Dragons that I’ve read that features the Plantagenets; specifically, the Welsh and how the Prince of Wales came to be. If you are a historical (fiction) buff then this book and the others in the series would be ones to read.
Factoid : I have a whale on my Christmas tree.

  3. When there are mosquitoes anywhere, my standard verbal reaction is “here be dragons.” Among our tree decorations we have a sweet little camel with seed bead reins and saddle decorations and nobody has any idea where it came from. Do the stories you write have phrases like “where it came from” or “from whence it came?” Happy weekend.
