Nowhere…

Every chance he gets, Mr. G, honey treks into Toronto to do some camera clicking.

Recently, he drove to a parking area near what had been the eastern extreme of the Gardiner Expressway, a downtown highway which Toronto is gradually dismantling. It runs along the Toronto waterfront, blocking much of its beauty, not to mention pedestrian access.

Remaining at the east end is a series of concrete supports which elevated the on-ramp. The ramp is gone. The supports remain. He calls this photo Stairway to Nowhere.

Walking from the parking lot to a good point from which to take that photo, he came across a collection of tiles in the sidewalk. We don’t know who they were installed by or why; nor do we know the significance of their symbols. But they are interesting.

To give you an idea of their actual size, here’s a photo with Mr. G, honey’s foot at the bottom. He’s not a Hobbit. Trust me.

I loved them so much, that I decided to crop a section of them for my header. Perhaps, someone will come along sometime, read this blog and tell me all about them. In the meantime, enjoy. Aren’t they gorgeous?

This is the long way of telling you that I’ve changed my header, as if I needed a long way.

I changed my header.

  1. It’s cool. You travel along the lakeshore, and there are all these cement columns hanging out with nothing to support anymore. It makes for architectural interest. 🙂 But I imagine you’re wanting to use the Stairway to Nowhere in a different sense. 😉
