Looking out my front door…

We have a wee front yard. Lilliput wee.

This past spring we had to remove a conifer from our front yard that was well above the second story and was threatening to undermine our water system. This caused a crying jag of epic proportions for several days. Well, not so much Mr. G honey. Me. Me. Me. It had to be done.

What we were left with was a giant bald spot full of needles, a hedge with a distinct half moon impression in it from the tree, and an assorted crabgrass-weed-grass-dandelion lawn. And one perennial bed hugging the foundation of the house.

We’ve started to read and plot and plan. More on that later.

One of the things we read was if you are considering changing your front porch/stairs/pad in your landscaping folly madness, do that first. So we did.

Here is the result.

This was here when we moved into the house. The loose brick and weeds arrived later.

The pink brick is now napping in the garage awaiting its next tour of duty. The dragonfly mat is all mine.

Paver muddle in the middle — just like a story. This is Brussels Block tumbled paver, and the team is using three different sizes. I’m getting a little excited.

Getting there.

Finished, but not cleaned up. Lots of polymeric sand everywhere.

Finished pavers wetted down.

Close up of wetted down pavers. The sand must now blow and settle over the winter and be topped up in the spring.

I think I’m pretty much in love with this rustic look. It’s warm and natural looking.

What do you think?

The perennial bed is being moved to other parts of the side and back gardens to make room for the new front look — whatever that will be. I have ideas. Mr. G honey has ideas, too. The G-Pup would like a hole to Hogwarts.

That’s the Friday post. TGIF, baby!

    • Aw. Thank you, Sarah. It’s the beginning. I think it will take the spring and summer to finish, but I have all winter by the fire to think about it and get the contractor on board for the things I can’t do. Um. That would be brick work and hauling big stuff. lol
