Month of May brings National Military Appreciation Month — NMAM. This is the 11th annual.
Regular readers know that I’ve been a volunteer with Soldiers’ Angels since April of 2008. Look to the right at my sidebar. See?
The program that I am involved in is Adopt a Soldier. In this program you — the angel — commit to writing a specific deployed soldier at least one letter per week and send him/her a package once or twice a month. You can learn more about it here. While I’m writing this post, there are 452 soldiers waiting to be adopted. Soldiers’ Angels wants you!
I’m on my second adoption. My first soldier is home. This has been one of the most satisfying volunteer commitments I have ever made. Mail Call is so important to a soldier far from home and loved ones. Many soldiers go without any mail at all. That’s just not acceptable to me.
There are many other programs at SA that you can get involved with like Ladies of Liberty or K-9 Support, Chaplain Support Team or First Response Backpacks. Oh, go see. Click on the SA link above.
At the request of Soldiers’ Angels, Ranger Up has designed a new, edgier SA t-shirt logo. It is awesome. You can see it here. I bought two. One for my soldier and one for me. I like edgier, too.
To my adopted soldiers out there — you know who you are — THANK YOU for your service. It’s been a privilege to know you and help you in some small way. To Vets, including Mr. G, honey, thank you for having served. For soldiers lost, words cannot express. You all have my heartfelt gratitude.
p.s. To my current adoptee — More Charmin is on the way!
Yeah. It’s the little things that make all the difference in the world.
Now, back to our regularly scheduled blog.
