Is it Spring or Spring Fever, Baby?…

“When we want to dance, we dance…” sings Madeleine Peyroux in (Getting Some) Fun Out of Life — from the jazz album Dreamland. It’s my new fave song. Go. Buy. Listen. I did. I first heard it watching The Jane Austen Book Club, and I can’t get it out of my head. I love that movie soundtracks introduce me to so much music I might not otherwise hear.

Well, there’s all kinds of dancing, especially in Spring when the world seems driven to dance the dance of love. Call it lust, hormones, love or some super-sized combo, but it’s getting wild out there in the animal kingdom, baby!

In 1835, Alfred, Lord Tennyson — In the Spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.

In 1965, a young man’s fancy looked like a scene from Girl Happy. Elvis & Shelley, baby!

In 1989, the B-52’s gave us the Love Shack.

It’s official. We welcome Spring. I’m slurping decaffeine, watching it snow, and feeling the pull of the fever! I hope you enjoy my offering to Spring. I leave you with a quote —

It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! ~ Mark Twain

If you’ve got a favorite quote about Spring…..bring it!

  1. If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.
