Tide & Boar or Tidal Bore?… Both

Meanwhile, back at the New Brunswick Road Trip…

From Hopewell Cape, we motored up the 114 34.6 km (21.49944 miles) to Moncton. The Googles is nothing if not precise.

It was easy, breezy.

Moncton, New Brunswick (Pop. 69,074 — 2011). There’s a greater Moncton, but let’s just stick with Moncton proper.

City Hall on Main Street!

We drove right up Main Street and parked at the Tourist Information Centre at Bore Park, which is where you can see the tidal bore when it comes through. But that wasn’t why we parked there.

I was feeling peckish for lobster and wanted to find out the who-what-where-when-why-and-how of lobster eating in Moncton. I was on a mission for a roll.

The info centre was being manned by two bright and engaging young women who did not rush us out the door even though closing time was nigh.

We asked about the tidal bore.

Yes! Yes! You’ll see it right here at the amphitheatre to the left.

It was due to arrive at 6:10, give or take 20 minutes, we needed to watch our time.

I had noticed a lobster bar just down the street before we hit Bore Park, and asked about a lobster roll. The staffer with the fish tattoo on her arm said if I wanted a lobster roll, I wouldn’t find a better one than at the Tide & Boar Gastropub about two blocks back on Main.

She cracked a smile.

In that case, you’ll see me there in about 15 minutes. It’s my second job!

It was a conversation in exclamations.

We were kindred lobster roll spirits.

We left the car in park and hoofed it back down the street until we saw the Tide & Boar sign. My mouth was already watering.

It was doing a brisk trade.

Chains. My baby’s got me locked up in chains!

Thank you, Carole King.

So wanted to ride this bike back to Bore Park! Maybe all the way back to Ontarioland. Mebbe.

We were seated by a window and given menus. I read mine like it was a treasure map. In my mind it was. Still. Lobster roll. And craft beer. Must have craft beer.

There’s a lot of red in this town. A lot of red. Just peeking through the side door. I’m sitting right around the corner. Eventually.

While we waited for our order to come up, I watched everything being delivered to the tables around us and often stopped the wait staff with a What was that you just delivered? They loved me so.

Do you need a moment?

Take your time.

Yes. It was sooooo good. And the fried capers in the salad caused me to swoon.

I was going to need several days to sample everything I wanted to sample. Sadly, we had to begin our reverse roadmance the next day.

My mind turned to flying back to Moncton another time for a longer stay. Renting a car. Seeing all the sights I was not going to see. After dinner, I thought about just moving there.

Why not? We’re due a move.

We had to make haste back to Bore Park for the tidal bore. It wasn’t the spectacular event I was expecting. But it was just a quarter moon, so not surprising.

Here it comes!

There it goes!

We missed a lot of Moncton. A lot. This just gives us another reason to head back to New Brunswick. We need to see St. Andrews by-the-Sea. Miramichi.

But G-Pup was expecting us home, as in — Don’t make me stand at the end of the driveway looking for you! And did anyone notice that my food bowl is empty?

Drama Pup!

Small adventures. We loves ’em.

Here be Hump Day.

Let’s just pile into the mini cooper and head to the Tide & Boar. There’s a craft beer waiting.

Thus endeth the #newbrunswickroadtrip .
