#TBT: I’m Talkin’ Back…

I’m thinking about heroes and heroines or sheroes, whichever floats your boat. Fiction writing does that to me. And it’s spring. That just keeps coming up, and will likely come up until I’m wearing a hoody and kickin’ along in some kicks.

Back in 2007, during the early days of this blog, I posted this in the life, love, and writing categories. It has come to my attention recently that I have way too many categories. I used them like tags back in the day, when no one knew what they were doing anyway. I’ll be rectifying that shortly, and I can honestly say I would rather visit the dentist for a root canal.

I digress.

So let’s throw back to 2007.

Who Do You Love?

We aren’t blogging about a Bo Diddley, Lenny White, or Whitney Houston song here.

We want to know who’s your favorite hero to write or read? You tell me yours. I’ll tell you mine.

Is it the hero in a uniform that makes you feel the heat? Does a suit make you want to lie down on the boardroom table? Is nerd talk your Sweet Nothins? Does the athlete deliver that slam-dunk to your heart? Or is it that hunky cowboy that sends you straight for a home on the range?

Don’t find him here? Is he the guy next door? The Highland warriorBurnt-out cop? Hard-boiled detectiveSpecial Ops?

Are you pining for a hard hat and a tool belt? Or do you have a case of What’s Up, Doc?

Is it the exterior package, or what’s under the hood? Does he have a bad-to-the-bone attitude? A wicked sense of humor? A big heart? A soft center? A sexy brain?

Is he flawed? Vulnerable? Maybe he’s a little bit of one thing, a whole lot of another.

Who’s your favorite hero to read or write? …

Who Do You Love?

He, She, X. I don’t care. I’m using He, because a hero is generally what I start with in a story.

I left this as my comment for that post:

…“I love the man who puts his heart on the line knowing I’ll treat it with respect.” Well said. That’s a deal-breaker for me. And, of course, vice versa. I love a guy who can make me laugh. I love a guy who looks at me like I’m a Baskin-Robbins 31 Flavors, and he’s just been given a little pink spoon and doesn’t know where to start. I love a guy with the courage of his convictions. I love a guy who will laugh when you lob a snowball in his face — and he WILL retaliate! I love a man who will dance me around the kitchen for no reason. I love a man who brings me Won Ton soup because I’m —  sniff, sniff, blergh — sick. In fiction, I love when an author delivers Tall, Dark and Believable, and I’ve read heroes in wheelchairs who I thought were Tall, Dark and Believable. It goes to that whole package you’re talking about, Keziah. Yep. A hero and heroine who believe in each other and bring out the best (okay, sometimes the worst 😉 ) in each other. Last thought. At the end of the day… I’m still a sucker for a cowboy!

I told you mine. Now. Go!

And that’s how we’re rolling this Throwback Thursday.

  1. I like a hero who is smart, kind, flawed in charming domestic ways, but strong in moral decisive ways. A hero who is imperfect, but trying to better himself– and who is a few pounds overweight. None of these gym rat types, give me a teddy bear… that I can hug.
