People are resolving to resolve all over the place.
The UN has declared 2016 to be the International Year of Pulses — lentils, peas, chickpeas, beans.
And who is the largest exporter of lentils and peas?
According to Pulse Canada, that would be…

I took the Pulse Pledge challenge.
What is this challenge, you ask?
Committing to eating pulses once a week for 10 weeks in 2016.
And since I made Dutch Spit Pea Soup with Ham on Monday. I’ve got the first week covered.
Why did I not take pictures of that process on Monday?

I love pulses but not challenges and pledges. I’m also a people pleaser and a rebel. What am I supposed to do with this one Elen? I happen to love split pea soup but since I’ve been vegetarian (9 years now) I have yet to find a recipe that ticks all the boxes for me. I love pea soup but not the ham. I’m a bilingual Maritimer through and through. Maybe living in Ontario is what’s cause all my dilemmas…

That is a good question. And when I went back to the site to check on that, it wasn’t clear. I assumed it was 10 consecutive weeks, but I have made an inquiry and will get back to you on that.

Okay. I heard back from the Pulse Pledge people, Eric. It is 10 consecutive weeks. Did you sign on? I’m trying to focus on more meatless meals (grow my palate) and this is a good way to troll for pulse recipes. Hee.

Sadly, I didn’t sign on. I have two very picky eaters here. While I can get peas into the oldest no problem, the others would be tricky. The only green veggie the youngest will eat is broccoli. I suppose I could try to be devious and sneak them in a meal somehow.

Reminds me of when our son went to stay at a friend’s house for the weekend when he was about 10. We were having dinner the 1st night he was back home. He said to my wife, “Mum can you buy some European Ham?”. Not sure what sort of ham he meant she said “European Ham?”. He replied “Yeah, Ben’s Mum made European Ham Soup & it was really nice”

I’m not a big PULSE fan. In fact, I didn’t know that’s what they were called. I thought they were ‘on, no, not those again’. My wife makes me eat the lentils and your soup sounds great. Pass the bread, please.
